Okay, so today I wanted to get better at receiving in volleyball, specifically for this “Game Volleyball Championship” thing. I’m not the best, but I figured, hey, gotta start somewhere, right?

Getting Started
First thing I did was, I found a wall. Sounds simple, but it’s honestly the best practice buddy you can have when you’re alone. My garage wall was perfect – nice and flat, no windows to accidentally smash.
Practice, Practice, Practice
- Stance: I worked on getting low. Like, really low. I watched some videos online, and everyone kept saying “bend your knees, not your back!” So, I focused on that. Felt kinda awkward at first, like I was doing a weird squat, but I think it helped.
- Platform: This is what they call it when you put your arms together, right? I tried to make a flat surface with my forearms. My wrists kept wanting to bend, making the ball go all over the place. Took some serious concentration to keep them straight.
- Contact: Aiming was… challenging. I started by just bumping the ball gently against the wall, trying to get it to come straight back to me. My goal was to keep the ball between my body and the wall.
Making Adjustments
After a while, my arms started to ache, like a dull burn. Realized I was probably being too tense. I took a few breaks, shook it out, and tried to relax my shoulders more. That made a difference, felt less like I was fighting the ball.
I also noticed that the ball kept going too high. So I practiced angling my platform down slightly. Took some trial and error, lots of chasing the ball around the garage, but I slowly started getting a feel for it.
Little Victories
The best part? When I finally managed to get, like, five consistent passes in a row. It wasn’t perfect, they weren’t all going exactly where I wanted, but they were controlled. Felt pretty good!
Next Steps
I still need a lot more practice. I’m thinking of joining a casual volleyball group. Playing with real people, with actual sets and spikes, that’s the next level. But for now, me and my garage wall, we’re making progress. Step by step, I hope, I can improve my receive skill before the game!
