Okay, so, I was curious about how long a volleyball game usually takes. I mean, I’ve watched a bunch of games, but I never really paid attention to the actual time it took from start to finish. So, I decided to do a little digging myself. You know, to figure out the average time for a volleyball game. It is interesting.
First, I grabbed a notebook and pen, ready to become a timekeeper. I decided to watch a mix of games – some local college matches and a few professional ones online. My goal was to get a good average, not just for one type of game. I started with the college games, since those were easier to find and get information from friends.
My observations
- Watched five college games. I recorded the start and end times of each set. Some matches were quick, ending in three straight sets, while others dragged on to five.
- Noticed that the time between sets was pretty consistent – about 3 minutes for the short breaks and 5 minutes before the third set. It is not a long time.
- Then, I moved on to professional games. I picked out three international matches from recent tournaments, watched them online. I recorded the data and I think it is accurate.
- These pro games had more timeouts and some delays due to video reviews. It added a bit of time, but not as much as I expected.
After gathering all this data, I sat down and started crunching numbers. The average was interesting. Most of the college games took around 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. The pro matches were a bit longer, averaging about 2 hours and 15 minutes, give or take.
So, there you have it. A volleyball game usually takes somewhere between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours 15 minutes, depending on whether it’s a college or pro match. Of course, this can vary if the sets are really close, or if there are a lot of delays. But, I think that I did a good job and I recorded the details during my observation.
This little experiment was pretty fun. It made me appreciate the sport even more, and I got a better sense of the pacing of the game. Next time you watch a match, maybe you’ll also notice the time and how it all flows. Let’s try together.
This is my sharing for today. See you next time.
