Okay, so, a few weeks ago, I started messing around with this “JO volleyball” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I heard about it from a friend who’s super into sports, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I mean, I used to play a bit of volleyball back in high school, but nothing serious. Turns out, JO volleyball, which stands for “Junior Olympic,” is basically the traveling, more competitive side of the sport.

First thing I did was try to figure out what I was getting myself into. It’s not just some casual weekend games. The season kicks off around December and goes on until April for local teams and even June for the national ones. That’s a pretty long commitment! And it’s similar to those club soccer or AAU basketball leagues. Serious stuff.
- I started by hitting up a few local clubs to see what the vibe was like.
- Lots of different teams based on age and skill level, which was cool.
- Ended up joining a team that seemed like a good fit for me – not too intense, but still competitive enough to be fun.
Practices were the next big thing. We’re talking a couple of times a week, getting back into the swing of things. Bumping, setting, spiking – the whole nine yards. I was definitely rusty at first, but it slowly started coming back to me. The coaches were helpful, breaking down the techniques and making sure we were all on the same page.
Then came the tournaments. Man, those were something else! We traveled to different places, played against other clubs, and really got a taste of what competitive volleyball is all about. It was tiring, for sure, but also super exciting. We won some, we lost some, but overall, it was a blast.
It’s Not Just About Volleyball
But here’s the thing – it wasn’t just about the games. I met a bunch of new people, made some good friends, and learned a lot about teamwork and pushing myself. It was a great way to get back in shape, too. I mean, running around and jumping all the time definitely does wonders for your fitness!
So, that’s my JO volleyball experience in a nutshell. It’s been a fun, challenging, and rewarding few months. If you’re looking for a way to get active, meet new people, and maybe relive your glory days of high school sports, I’d say give it a go. Just be prepared to sweat!
And I decided to keep doing it, maybe I will join some national teams, who knows? Anyway, it feels great to do something challenging and stick to it.
