Alright, let me tell you about my recent adventure with volleyball. I’ve always thought volleyball seemed like a blast, a really dynamic and fun game. So, I decided to give it a shot myself. I thought why not, it looked popular these days.

I started with gathering some friends who were also newbies like me. We didn’t have a proper court, so we just set up a makeshift net in my backyard. It wasn’t pretty, but it did the job.
Getting the Hang of It
First, we tried to understand the basic rules. We learned that the goal is to get the ball over the net and onto the other team’s side. If they can’t return it, you score a point. Sounds simple, right? Well, it’s a bit more complicated when you’re actually playing.
We practiced serving first. My serves were all over the place initially! Some went too high, some too low, and some just hit the net. But after a while, I started getting the hang of it. I figured out how to toss the ball just right and hit it with the right amount of force.
Passing and Setting
Next up was passing. This was tough! We kept missing the ball or sending it in random directions. But we didn’t give up. We practiced a lot of toss and pass drills. I’d toss the ball to a friend, and they’d try to pass it back to me. Slowly but surely, we got better. We learned to use our forearms and aim for a specific spot.
Setting was another challenge. We tried to set the ball up high so someone could spike it. Most of the time, our sets were too low or too far away. But we kept practicing. We did 1-on-1 setting drills, where we took turns setting the ball to each other. Gradually, our sets became more accurate and consistent.
Hitting and Blocking
Hitting, or spiking, was the most exciting part! We all wanted to be the one to smash the ball over the net. At first, our hits were weak and often missed the target. But we learned to jump and hit the ball at its highest point. We did wall hitting drills, where we practiced hitting the ball against a wall. It helped us improve our timing and power.

Blocking was another story. We tried to jump and block the other team’s hits, but we were often too slow or too short. But we practiced wall blocks, pretending the wall was the net. We worked on our jumping technique and timing. It was tiring, but we started getting better at blocking.
Playing a Game
Finally, we felt ready to play a real game. We divided ourselves into two teams and started playing. It was chaotic at first! We bumped into each other, missed the ball, and made lots of mistakes. But it was so much fun! We cheered, laughed, and celebrated every point, no matter how clumsy.
We learned that each game, or set, goes up to 25 points, and you need to win by at least 2 points. If you get to the fifth set, it’s only up to 15 points. We played a few games, and each one was a learning experience. We started to understand the flow of the game and how to work together as a team.
Wrapping Up
After a few hours of playing, we were exhausted but happy. We had learned a lot, made a ton of mistakes, but most importantly, we had a great time. Volleyball is definitely not as easy as it looks, but it’s incredibly rewarding. I’m definitely going to keep practicing and playing. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll even join a real team! Or maybe not, I just wanna have some fun with my friends.
So, that’s my volleyball adventure so far. It’s been a journey of learning, practicing, and having a lot of fun. If you’re thinking about trying volleyball, I say go for it! Just be prepared to make mistakes, laugh a lot, and have a blast.
