Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to get into the whole Husker volleyball scene. I mean, it’s the thing in Nebraska, right? Everyone’s always talking about it, so I figured, “Why not?” I decided to go to a game and document it from a total newbie’s perspective.

First things first, getting tickets. Oh boy. Apparently, these things are like gold dust. I tried online, but it was a maze of sold-out sections and confusing resale sites. Finally, I asked a coworker. Best decision. He got me hooked up.
Next, I found the location of the game, the Devaney Center. Okay, not too hard. Got the address, punched it into my phone’s maps, and I was good to go, or so I thought.
Game day! I wore red, obviously. Like, a lot of red. I think I saw every shade of red imaginable. Everyone had red shirts, hats, face paint, and one person even had red hair!
Finding parking felt like another competitive sport. People had been tailgating for hours. The smell of grilled burgers was everywhere. I finally squeezed into a spot that was probably a 15-minute walk from the arena, but hey, I was there!
The Atmosphere
- Loud. Like, really loud.
- Energetic. People were jumping, cheering, and doing this wave thing that I almost messed up… several times.
- Passionate. You could tell these fans loved their Huskers. Like, seriously loved them.
The game itself? Honestly, a blur. I was so busy taking it all in. I did learn some basic rules.
The players were incredible. So athletic, so powerful. It was amazing to watch them spike the ball and dive for saves. I tried to keep up with the scoring, but, let’s just say I’m still working on that.

By the end, I was exhausted, but in a good way. My voice was hoarse from yelling (or, trying to yell along with everyone else). The Huskers won, of course, The place went absolutely wild. Confetti, music, the whole nine yards.
Final thoughts? It was an experience. A totally overwhelming, slightly confusing, but ultimately super fun experience. Would I go again? Absolutely. But next time, I’m bringing earplugs… and maybe a cheat sheet for the rules.
