Okay, so today I decided to get out of the house and hit the beach for some volleyball. I haven’t played in ages, so I was a little nervous, to be honest.
First thing I did was find some people to play with. Luckily, there were a few groups already setting up nets. I walked around, kind of awkwardly, until I saw a group that looked friendly and not too intense. I just went up and asked if they needed another player, and they were super chill about it.
Next, I had to, you know, actually play. My skills were rusty, to say the least! I whiffed on a few serves, completely missed some easy bumps, and my setting was…well, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. But, the other players were cool and gave me some pointers. They reminded me about moving my feet, getting under the ball, and not being afraid to call for it.
- Warm-up: We started with some simple passing drills, just to get a feel for the ball and the sand.
- Serving practice: We took turns practicing our serves. My overhand serve needs some serious work.
- Playing games: We split into teams and played a few games. It was more about having fun than being super competitive.
It took a couple of games, but I finally started to get the hang of it again. I even managed to get a few decent spikes in! The feeling of hitting the ball just right, and seeing it land on the other side of the net…man, that’s satisfying.
Honestly the sand made things extra * was a bit uncomfortable.And jumping in the sand? Way harder than it looks. I was definitely feeling it in my legs by the end of the day.
The Result?
I’m sore, I’m sandy, and I probably look like a lobster, but it was totally worth it. It was a blast getting back into volleyball, and I definitely want to play more often. It was just a good time.
