Man, I’ve always wanted a basketball hoop at home, you know? Finally got around to putting one up on the wall. It wasn’t too hard, but it definitely took some doing.

First, I went online and looked for a decent hoop. There’s a ton of them out there, but I ended up getting one of those heavy-duty steel rims, 18 inches. Figured it would last longer, especially with the weather we get around here. I also made sure to get a shatter-proof backboard – safety first, right? It was a 28.5 x 18 inch backboard with a 17 inch rim.
Once the hoop arrived, I got all my tools together. Needed a drill, some screws, a level, and a wrench. I also grabbed a ladder since I needed to reach up high. The wall I picked was brick, so I had to use special masonry bits for the drill.
Marking the holes was probably the trickiest part. I wanted to make sure the hoop was level and at the right height. I measured everything out, used the level to double-check, and then marked where the screws would go. Then came the drilling. It took some muscle, but I managed to get the holes in the wall without too much trouble.
After that, it was just a matter of mounting the backboard and attaching the rim. I lined everything up, tightened the screws with the wrench, and made sure it was all secure. I found a cement, brick, or wood wall is a better place to mount securely on.
Finally, I hung the net, and it was good to go! I shot a few hoops to test it out, and it felt great. It’s solid, sturdy, and ready for some serious games. It is designed to withstand the elements and are perfect for the outdoors.
Here’s a quick rundown of what I used:
- Heavy-duty steel rim (18 inches)
- Shatter-proof backboard (28.5 x 18 inches)
- Drill with masonry bits
- Screws (appropriate for brick)
- Level
- Wrench
- Ladder
- All-weather net
Now I can play whenever I want, right in my own backyard. Pretty sweet, huh? I’m no LeBron, but hey, it’s fun, and it’s good exercise. Plus, it’s a great way to hang out with friends and family. If you’ve been thinking about getting a hoop, I say go for it! It’s totally worth it.
