Okay, so yesterday I was hanging out with my friends, and we wanted to do something active, but also kinda chill. We had a volleyball, but didn’t really feel like a full-on game. So, I started brainstorming some fun, less serious games we could play.

First, I grabbed the volleyball and we just started with some simple pepper. You know, the classic bump, set, spike drill, but without the pressure of a real game. We kept it casual, laughing when someone messed up, and just enjoyed keeping the ball in the air.
Trying Stuff Out
After a while, that got a little boring, so I suggested we try “Volleyball Golf”. I basically made up this game on the spot. I picked a few targets around the yard – a tree, a chair, a random spot on the lawn – and we had to see how many hits it took to get the ball to each “hole”. We used the same bump, set, spike sequence, and counted each contact as a “stroke”. It was hilarious seeing how off-target we were sometimes!
- Step 1: Find random “holes” (targets).
- Step 2: Bump, set, or spike the ball towards the target.
- Step 3: Count each hit as a stroke.
- Step 4: Lowest score wins!
We played a few rounds and kept changing the position to make it more fun. I even add some bonus, if you can make it at first try, you got -1 scores!
Getting Creative
Next, I remembered a game called “One-Bounce”. The rule is simple – you can only let the volleyball touch on the floor once, the others you have to hit it before it touch the ground. We divided into two teams and played a mini-game with this rule. It was surprisingly tiring, and we were diving all over the place! The best part? It was all about teamwork and quick reactions, not just spiking power.
Last one, We ended the day with a silly game I totally invented. I call it “No-Look Volleyball”. You have to turn your back to where you hit the volleyball, and you can do whatever you want, sit, lay down, just make sure you don’t look at it. Seriously. It was pure chaos and laughter. We were bumping the ball over our heads, setting it backwards, and mostly just whiffing completely. It was the perfect way to end a fun, non-competitive volleyball session.
So yeah, that’s how I spent my afternoon – messing around with a volleyball and some made-up games. It was way more fun than just practicing drills, and we all got a good workout without even realizing it. I highly recommend trying these out, or even better, inventing your own!
