Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole “Entertainment Engineering” thing at UNLV, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I figured I’d jot down what I’ve been up to, partly for myself, partly ’cause maybe someone else finds it interesting.

First off, I started by just digging into what the heck Entertainment Engineering even is. Turns out, it’s this crazy mix of, like, making cool shows and figuring out the tech behind it all. Think concerts, theme parks, theater – all that jazz.
Diving into the Basics
I spent a good chunk of time just getting the basics down. There’s a lot of, you know, regular engineering stuff – physics, math, that kind of thing. But then you get into the fun parts!
- I messed around with some lighting design software. It’s way more complicated than just turning lights on and off. You gotta think about colors, angles, how it all makes the audience feel.
- Then there was the sound stuff. I learned how speakers work, how to set up microphones, all that. Let me tell you, feedback is a nightmare to deal with.
- I even got my hands dirty with some basic stage mechanics. You know, how they make things move on stage? It’s all pulleys and levers and stuff. Surprisingly complicated!
Afterward I tried to design lighting for a small virtual stage. At the begining, I spent hours to find some useful design softwares. Then, I used the basic knowledges of lighting I learned before, and followed the instructions that software provided, step by step. I did a lot of practice, again and again. Finally, I made it!
Getting More Advanced
Once I felt like I had a handle on the basics, I started looking into more specialized stuff. I think that will be a bigger challenge.
I also learned about some safety, turns out it’s not only about electric, there’s also a lot of other things to consider.
Honestly, it’s a lot to take in. But it’s also super exciting. Every time I figure something out, it’s like this little “aha!” moment. I’m still very much a beginner, but I’m definitely hooked. It’s like, you’re not just building something, you’re building an experience. And that’s pretty darn cool.
