Okay, so today I wanted to make a game character, you know, a fat volleyball player. It’s gonna be fun, I thought!
Getting Started
First, I grabbed some references. I looked at pictures of volleyball players, and, well, pictures of fat people. It’s all about getting the right shapes, right?
I opened up my 3D modeling software, it is Blender. I usually use Zbrush, but today I wanted to try something different. And started with a basic sphere. Yep, a simple ball to build the body.
Shaping the Body
I started pushing and pulling the vertices around. That is how these basic 3d softwares work. The goal was to get that round, hefty shape. I focused on the belly and the thighs, making them nice and plump. It’s kinda like sculpting with digital clay, pretty cool.
- Making a blob: I used subdivision surface to smooth things out.
- Add some detail: Then created some basic legs and arms.
Head and Face
Next, I worked on the head. Another sphere, naturally! I squished it a bit, added some chubby cheeks, and a double chin – gotta have that double chin!
For the eyes, I just used simple spheres again. I am not a great artist you know. I gave him a goofy, surprised expression. It seemed to fit the character, haha.
Volleyball Outfit
Time for the clothes! I modeled a simple tank top and some shorts. Making them a bit too tight, of course, to emphasize the… uh… physique.
- Tank Top: created a simple cylinder and did some adjustments.
- Shorts: Basically the same. I can model, I can’t make clothes!
Texturing and Colors
I picked some bright, cartoony colors. Yellow for the tank top, blue for the shorts. Simple, but effective,I added some basic textures, nothing too fancy. Just enough to give it some life.
Final Touches
I posed him in a sort of “ready to jump” stance, even though he probably wouldn’t get very high. It is just a funny concept.
And that’s it! My fat volleyball player character. It’s not perfect, but it was a fun little project. I learned a few things along the way, and that’s what matters. I just like sharing my creative process with others! Maybe I’ll try animating him later. Who knows?
