Okay, folks, gather ’round, let me tell you about this little project I recently finished. I saw these basketball purses popping up all over the place, and I thought, “I can do that, and maybe even better!” So, I decided to make my own basketball purse.
Get Materials Ready
First things first, I needed a basketball. Not just any basketball, mind you. It had to be the right size, and I preferred the classic orange. Luckily, I found one lying around in my garage. I cleaned it up, and it was good as new. Then, I needed some other stuff. I grabbed a zipper from an old jacket I wasn’t using anymore. I also found some strong fabric for the lining, in a nice, bright color to contrast with the orange of the basketball. Also, I picked up some sturdy straps from an old bag. I figured, why buy new when you can reuse, right?
Cut and Sew
The tricky part was cutting the basketball. I marked a line where I wanted the opening to be, and then, using a sharp knife, I carefully cut along the line. It wasn’t as easy as slicing bread, let me tell you. Basketballs are tough! Once I had the two halves, I started working on the inside. I sewed the fabric lining into each half, making sure it was snug and secure. I used some strong glue to help keep it in place. Then, I attached the zipper to the edges of the opening. I made sure to sew it on really tight, so it wouldn’t come off with all the stuff I’d be putting in the purse.
Assemble and Decorate
After the zipper, I attached the straps. I decided to go for a cross-body style, so I attached one end of the strap to one half of the basketball and the other end to the other half. I made sure the straps were long enough and secure. After that, I thought about adding some decorations. I found some cool rhinestones in my craft box and decided to glue them around the zipper and along the lines of the basketball. I made a sort of net pattern, and it looked pretty cool, if I do say so myself.
Final Touches
The last thing I did was give it a good once-over. I checked all the seams, made sure the zipper worked smoothly, and that the straps were secure. And there it was, my very own, one-of-a-kind basketball purse! It was a fun project, and I got a unique purse out of it. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter. I love walking around with it and seeing people’s reactions.
- First Try: It was surprisingly hard to cut the basketball at first.
- Second Try: The sewing part was a bit tricky. I had to use a heavy-duty needle.
- Third Try: I tried to add too many decorations at first, and it looked tacky. I had to remove some and keep it simple.
So, yeah, that’s my basketball purse story. It was a bit of a challenge, but totally worth it. If you’re thinking about making one, I say go for it! It’s a fun project, and you end up with a really cool and unique accessory.
