So, I decided I needed to check out a Texas Longhorns volleyball game. Heard a lot about the energy, especially at Gregory Gym, and figured it was time to see it myself. It wasn’t some big planned thing, more like a spur-of-the-moment idea that stuck.

Getting there was pretty straightforward. Found some decent parking, though you always gotta walk a bit, you know how it is around campus. Grabbed my ticket – had it on my phone, makes things easier these days. Walked over to the gym. You could already feel a buzz even outside.
Inside Gregory Gym
Went inside, and man, the place was already getting packed. Found my section, then my seat. Pretty good view, not too high up. You could really see the court well. People were finding their spots, grabbing snacks, lots of burnt orange everywhere, of course. The school band was there, playing all the usual songs, getting people hyped up.
Then the teams came out for warmups. You see how tall and athletic these players are up close. It’s different than watching on TV. They were practicing serves, spikes, setting drills. Just watching the warmup was pretty impressive, the power behind those hits.
The Game Experience
Alright, so the game started. Introductions, national anthem, the whole deal. The crowd got LOUD. Like, really loud. Every point the Longhorns scored, the place just erupted. It wasn’t just polite clapping; people were really into it.
I focused on just watching the flow. Here’s what I noticed:
- The speed: The ball moves way faster than you think. Those serves come flying over the net.
- Teamwork: You really see how they have to communicate and move together for every single play. One person slightly off and the point can be lost.
- The saves: Some of those digs were crazy. Players diving, sliding, somehow keeping the ball in play. Got big cheers from everyone.
- The spikes: When a hitter really connected and slammed the ball down? Forget about it. The sound it makes, the reaction – that’s probably the highlight moment folks wait for.
It wasn’t just about the action on the court, though. The whole atmosphere was part of it. The chants, the band, reacting with the people around you. Even during timeouts, there was stuff going on to keep the energy up.
The Longhorns played really well the night I went. Felt good to be part of a winning crowd, you know? High fives going around, everyone leaving happy.
Heading Home
After the final point, folks started clearing out. Took a little while to get out of the gym and back to where I parked, but it wasn’t too bad. Walking out, still buzzing a bit from the noise and the excitement inside.
Overall, it was a great time. Way more intense and engaging than I maybe expected. Just a solid sporting event experience. If you haven’t been, I’d say give it a shot, especially if you want to feel that real college sports energy. Definitely different from just watching highlights later.
