Today, I felt like getting out of the house, so I decided to hit up the beach. But not just to sit around, I wanted to do something fun and active. So, I thought, why not try some “sport praia,” you know, beach sports.

First off, I had to figure out what I was gonna do. I mean, there are so many options when it comes to beach sports, right? So I did a little digging. I found that beach workouts are actually pretty good for you. Something about the sand making it tougher to move, so you end up burning more calories and working those muscles harder. It is also a lower-impact exercise. I read some article that said running on sand can make your hip and knee muscles work like double than on the road.
Here’s what I ended up doing:
- Surfing: I remember someone said surfing began to be practiced around 1940. I grabbed a surfboard. It was tough, but man, was it fun! Catching those waves and riding them in, it’s like nothing else. I wiped out a few times, sure, but that’s all part of the fun.
- Beach Running: I went for a run along the water. It was way harder than running on the track, let me tell you. My legs were burning, but in a good way. Plus, the view was amazing.
- Beach Volleyball: I always watched some people playing volleyball, and it looked fun, so I hopped into a game with some other folks on the beach. Bumping, setting, spiking – it was a blast. And diving for the ball in the sand? Way more fun than on a hard court.
After all that, I was beat, but in the best way possible. I felt like I got a great workout in, and I had a ton of fun doing it. Plus, being out in the sun and the fresh air just made it even better.
So yeah, that was my day of “sport praia.” I’d totally recommend it if you’re looking for a fun way to stay active. It’s way better than just lying around on the beach, that’s for sure. You don’t need to be a pro athlete or anything, just get out there and give it a try. You might surprise yourself with what you can do!
