Okay, so I’ve been getting really into beach volleyball lately, and with the Commonwealth Games having featured it, I figured I’d dive deep into the women’s side of things. Here’s how my deep dive went.
First, I started with simple curiosity. I mean, who doesn’t love watching beach volleyball? It’s fast-paced, sunny, and the athleticism is insane. I wanted to know more, specifically about the Commonwealth Games, because you don’t see that competition highlighted as much as, say, the Olympics.
My Research Process
- I started by watching some of the past games. I wanted to watch the games first to get a visual of what to expect.
- Then, I looked up the history. When did beach volleyball even become a Commonwealth Games sport? Which countries have dominated?
- I focused on team compositions. Player dynamics are super important in beach volleyball. How do these teams train together? What are their backgrounds?
It all snowballed from there. I found myself going down rabbit holes, reading about individual players, their training regimens, even the sand they play on (apparently, that’s a whole thing!).
It was a lot of fun, and I learned much more than I ever expected. Beach volleyball is more complex than it may appear!
