Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this idea for a while, and I finally did it. I made an 80s football t-shirt! It’s been a journey, let me tell you.
First off, I had to figure out what makes an 80s football tee, well, an 80s football tee. I spent a good chunk of time scrolling through old photos, watching old games on YouTube – you name it. I was looking for that special something, that vibe, you know? And what really stood out were those bold colors, the big shoulder pads, and those ridiculous hairstyles that seemed to defy gravity. Those were the days, huh?
Once I had a general idea, I started sketching. Lots and lots of sketching. I went through a ton of paper, trying to get the design just right. I wanted something that screamed “80s” but also felt kind of cool today, not like a costume, more like a statement. I played around with different color combinations, finally settling on a vibrant mix of pink and black, and of course, you can’t forget some black-and-white patterns.
Finding The Right Stuff
Then came the fun part – finding the materials. I hit up a bunch of fabric stores, feeling different materials, looking for that perfect texture that just felt right. And the colors! It took forever to find just the right shades of that neon-ish color I was picturing, but I eventually nailed it.
After that, I actually had to make the thing. Sewing isn’t exactly my forte, but I’ve dabbled. I dusted off my old sewing machine – it’s a hand-me-down from my grandma – and got to work. There were some hiccups, let’s just say the shoulder pads were a bit of a challenge, but I powered through.
Here is what I did:
- First, cut out all the pieces. Sleeves, front, back – the whole nine yards.
- Then, tackled the shoulder pads, which, believe me, is not as easy as it sounds. I wanted them to be noticeable, but not like I was wearing a spaceship on my shoulders.
- Next up, sewed the main parts of the shirt together. This was the easiest part, thankfully.
- Finally, added some finishing touches. I wanted that extra pop, so I added some stripes and a big number on the back because every football tee needs a number, right?
And there it was. My very own, handmade, 1980s-inspired football t-shirt. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. It’s a great feeling to wear something you made yourself, especially when it brings back some good old memories, even if they’re a bit cheesy. Now, I just need to find the right pair of acid-washed jeans to go with it!
