So I decided to get back into recreational football. It’s been a while, you know? But I figured, why not give it a shot again? I’m in Georgia, and I heard there’s a pretty decent rec football scene around here. First thing I did was ask around to see if anyone knew of any leagues or groups. A buddy of mine told me about this league that plays on weekends.
I went online to check it out. Looked like they had a good number of teams, so that was promising. They had all the info on their website – schedules, rosters, all that good stuff. I signed up as a free agent since I didn’t have a team. Filled out a form with my info, position I played, experience level, that kind of thing.
After a week or so, I got an email from the league. Said they had a team that needed an extra player. Cool, right? I replied, said I was interested. They put me in touch with the team captain, a guy named Mike. We chatted a bit, he told me about the team, their play style, the usual pre-game stuff.
First game day rolls around, and I’m kind of nervous, not gonna lie. Haven’t played in a while, didn’t know what to expect. But I show up to the field, meet the guys, and they’re all pretty chill. We warm up, do some drills. The captain gives a little pep talk, and then it’s game time.
- First half, I’m mostly getting a feel for the game again. Making some plays, missing some. It’s all good.
- Second half, I start to get my groove back. Made a couple of good runs, even scored a goal!
- Felt great to be back on the field, even though it was really hot out there.
After the game, we all grab some drinks, chat about the game. Everyone’s in good spirits. Seems like a good group of guys. I think I’ll stick around for the rest of the season. It’s a good way to stay active, meet some new people, and just have some fun, you know?
I’ll be sure to keep updating this. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes! So far, so good.
