Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “projected top 25” thing for college football, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I started off just poking around, you know, seeing what all the fuss was about. I mean, everyone’s always talking about rankings and who’s gonna be the best, so I figured, why not give it a shot?

First thing I did was just look up some recent stuff. I saw a bunch of articles about the “top 25” and the “College Football Playoff.” Didn’t really know what any of it meant, but it sounded important. I noticed some teams kept popping up, like Oregon, Ohio State, and Texas. I figured they must be pretty good if they’re always mentioned.
Then I dug a little deeper. I found out there’s this thing called the “AP poll” that ranks the top 25 teams every week. Sounds kinda official, so I started paying more attention to that. I also saw something about “projected conference champions” and “seeds.” Seemed like some teams were expected to do better in their own groups, and that affected their overall ranking. This is starting to get a bit complicated, man…
I spent a few days just reading up on all this stuff, trying to make sense of it. It was a lot of information to take in. I started making a list of the teams that seemed to be doing well, based on what I was reading. Oregon, Georgia, Miami – they were all up there. And BYU too, for some reason. I also found out that there are “odds” for teams making it to the playoffs, and that was a whole other can of worms, I didn’t even want to touch that. I mean, “+700”? What’s that even mean?
So, after all that, I finally decided to try making my own top 25 list. I took the AP poll as a starting point and then made some adjustments based on what I had learned. I moved some teams up, some down. I even added a few that weren’t in the AP poll, just because I thought they had a good chance of doing well. And then I made some changes again, and again, and again. At some point I lost count how many times I’ve changed my list.
It was a fun little project, to be honest. I learned a lot about college football, and it gave me something to do in my spare time. I’m not saying my list is perfect, but I think it’s a pretty good representation of who the top teams are right now. But what do I know, I’m just some guy on the internet. Still, it’s kinda cool to think about how these rankings might actually play out in real life.
- Teams I think are gonna be good:
- Oregon
- Ohio State
- Texas
- Georgia
- Miami
Honestly, this whole thing was way more complicated than I expected. But hey, I gave it my best shot. Who knows, maybe I’ll do it again next year.
