Okay, so today I messed around with this “prisoner volleyball game” idea. It sounded kinda cool and I wanted to see if I could actually make something like that.

Getting Started
First, I grabbed some paper and a pen. I needed to sketch out the basic idea, you know? Like, how the court would look, where the “prisoners” would be, and stuff like that. I doodled a few different layouts, trying to figure out what made the most sense.
Figuring Out the Rules
Next, I started thinking about the rules. It couldn’t just be regular volleyball, right? It had to have that “prisoner” twist. So I brainstormed some ideas:
- Maybe each team has a “jail” area, and if the ball lands there, a player gets “captured.”
- Or maybe there are special zones on the court that give you bonuses or penalties.
- I even considered having different types of “prisoners” with different abilities.
I jotted down a bunch of these ideas, crossing some out, adding others. It was a bit of a mess, honestly.
Trying it Out (Sort Of)
Since I didn’t have a bunch of people to actually play a full game, I decided to do a little solo test. I set up some makeshift “court” markers in my living room (using pillows and books, haha) and pretended to play.
I tossed the ball around, imagining where players would be, how they’d move, and what strategies they might use. It felt a little silly, but it actually helped me see some flaws in my initial rules.
I realized, for example, that the “jail” idea might be too complicated.

Tweaking and Refining
Based on my “solo test,” I went back to my notes and started tweaking things. I simplified some of the rules, added a couple of new ones, and tried to make it all a bit more balanced. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s definitely getting there!
What’s Next?
I’m hoping to actually playtest this with some friends soon. That’s the real test, right? To see if it’s actually fun and engaging. I have added my ideas and I believe it will be greate when they play with me.I’ll probably have to make more adjustments after that, but hey, that’s part of the process!
