Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with volleyball in a different way. I’ve always loved the sport, but I wanted to see if I could come up with some fun, maybe even silly, games using a volleyball. No official matches or anything, just pure, goofy fun.

Brainstorming and Setting Up
First, I grabbed my trusty volleyball from the garage. It’s a bit worn, but still bounces perfectly. Then, I headed to my backyard – it’s not huge, but it’s got enough space for some low-key action. I didn’t bother with a net, because that felt too formal for what I had in mind.
My initial idea was to just invent games on the spot. No rules, just whatever felt fun at the moment.
The Games Begin!
- Volleyball Golf (Sort Of): I picked out a few spots in the yard – a tree, a lawn chair, a flower pot – and tried to hit the volleyball to them in as few “strokes” as possible. It was surprisingly tricky! The ball kept bouncing off in unexpected directions.
- Target Practice: I set up an old bucket and tried to serve the volleyball into it from different distances. This was way harder than it sounds. I think I got it in maybe twice out of twenty tries.
- Keep-Ups Challenge: This one was simple: how many times could I hit the volleyball up in the air without letting it touch the ground? My record was… not very impressive. Let’s just say I need more practice.
- Wall Ball: I used the volleyball to improve my skills, I’m still very much a beginner.
Final Thoughts
It was a pretty simple afternoon, but honestly, I had a blast. It reminded me that you don’t always need a structured game or a bunch of people to have fun with a sport. Sometimes, just messing around and being creative is the best way to enjoy it. I’ll definitely be trying some more made-up volleyball games in the future. Maybe I’ll even invite some friends next time – although I might need to work on my “volleyball golf” skills before I challenge anyone!
