Okay, so I decided to check out the Big Sky State Games volleyball tournament this year. I’ve always loved playing volleyball, though I’m no pro, and I heard this was a pretty big deal.

First, I looked up the dates and location. It’s a multi-sport event, so figuring out the specific volleyball schedule was key. Turns out, it was spread over a couple of days, which was perfect.
Then, I drove down to the venue. Man, the energy was amazing! So many people, all hyped up about their sports. I found the volleyball courts – they had multiple games going on at once. It was a bit overwhelming, but in a good way.
I spent the first few hours just wandering around, watching different matches. The skill levels varied, from recreational teams having a blast to some seriously competitive players spiking the ball like crazy. I even saw a few dives that made me wince – those folks were dedicated!
- I grabbed some snacks from a food vendor. Typical tournament fare – hot dogs, nachos, that sort of thing. Fuel for spectating, you know?
- I chatted with a few people in the stands. Turns out, a lot of them were family members of the players, which made sense. Everyone was super friendly.
Later in the day, I focused on watching some of the higher-level games. The intensity was definitely ramped up. The sets were tighter, the rallies were longer, and you could feel the tension in the air. These teams really wanted to win.
What I Learned
I’m not gonna lie, I was tempted to jump in and play! Seeing all that action made me miss the game. It also reminded me how much teamwork and strategy are involved, even at a more casual level.
Overall it was pretty fun to check that game and spend the whole day there.

All in all, it was a fun day. I got to witness some great volleyball, soak up the atmosphere, and remember why I enjoy the sport so much. Might even try to get a team together for next year… who knows?
