Hey everyone, it’s your boy back at it again. Today, I want to talk about something a little different from my usual stuff. You know how sometimes you get these random ideas that just won’t leave you alone? Well, that happened to me recently with the movie “ParaNorman”. Specifically, I got really fixated on trying to make a high school football player character in the style of that movie.
Starting Point
First, I watched “ParaNorman” again. I mean, who doesn’t love a good stop-motion animation? I paid super close attention to the character designs, especially the humans. They’ve got these exaggerated features, kinda cartoony but still grounded in reality, you know? I spent hours just sketching out different body types and facial features, trying to capture that unique “ParaNorman” vibe.
Getting into the Details
- I decided my football player needed to be big and bulky, but not just a generic meathead. I wanted him to have some personality.
- So, I gave him a slightly goofy grin, made one eyebrow a little higher than the other, just to give him a bit of asymmetry.
- Then came the clothes. I went through a bunch of different football uniform designs, trying to find one that would fit the “ParaNorman” aesthetic. It had to be simple but recognizable.
Bringing it to Life
After I had the basic design down, I started sculpting. I used this polymer clay I found online. I’m no expert, but it was pretty easy to work with. I built up the figure slowly, adding details like the folds in his uniform and the laces on his football boots. It was a long process, I won’t lie. I spent days just getting the proportions right, making sure he looked like he belonged in the “ParaNorman” world.
The Final Touches
Once the sculpting was done, I baked the figure in the oven to harden it. Then came the painting. This was probably the most fun part. I used acrylic paints and a bunch of tiny brushes to add all the colors and details. I made sure to give him a slightly weathered look, like he’d just come off the field after a tough game. And there you have it! My very own “ParaNorman” style high school football player. It was a lot of work, but I’m pretty happy with how he turned out. I might even try to animate him sometime, who knows? Anyway, that’s it for today’s little project. Hope you guys enjoyed this peek into my creative process. Catch you later!
