Okay, so, the Orioles, right? They’re my team, been following them for years. This offseason has been a rollercoaster, man. I’ve been glued to my phone, checking for updates every five minutes. It’s like, are we rebuilding? Are we contending? What’s the plan here?
First off, they traded for Daz Cameron. Yeah, Mike Cameron’s son. I remember watching his dad play, crazy. Anyway, Daz was already in our system last year, so it’s not a huge surprise. He’s a decent outfielder, might add some depth, I guess. Not exactly the splashy move I was hoping for, but okay.
Then, the big one – Corbin Burnes. Word on the street is he’s heading to the Diamondbacks. Six years, $210 million! That’s insane. I was really hoping we’d snag him. We desperately need a top-tier starting pitcher. Losing the Wild Card Series to the Royals last year, ouch. That stung. Burnes would’ve been a game-changer. I stayed up all night refreshing Twitter when the news broke, seriously. Kept hoping it was a false alarm.
- Trade for Daz Cameron.
- Rumors about Corbin Burnes going to the Diamondbacks.
- Losing the Wild Card Series to the Royals.
Now, they got Tyler O’Neill. This probably means Santander is out. Mixed feelings about that. Santander’s been solid, but O’Neill has potential, I’ll give him that. This whole thing feels like we’re trading away good players for… maybe good players? I don’t know, man. I spent the whole weekend digging into O’Neill’s stats, trying to convince myself it’s a good move. My wife thinks I’m obsessed.
They keep saying we need to “trade from strength.” We’ve got all these young hitters, but our pitching is, well, not great. We’ve got a good farm system, supposedly, so I guess the idea is to trade some prospects for an ace? But who? They signed Charlie Morton but he’s not exactly the guy he used to be. I went down a rabbit hole reading about all the potential trade targets – Luis Castillo’s name keeps popping up. I even went to the Augusta Convention Center last month where they were having that sports memorabilia show, hoping to maybe bump into some baseball insiders and get some gossip. No luck, sadly.
A Flurry of Activity
Then there’s the news about Eloy Jimnez. We just got him at the trade deadline last season, and now he’s gone? What was the point of that? It’s like they’re just shuffling guys around for the sake of it. I saw that news and just shook my head. I was really rooting for him too.
I’m trying to stay positive, I really am. It’s just frustrating. I keep reading that we’re “running out of options” to improve the rotation. I’m seeing all these articles about “potential threats” being eliminated from contention for top free agents. It’s all just a lot of noise, you know? I spent an hour yesterday just reading about trade deadlines and team options. My brain hurts.
Look, I’ll still be watching every game, cheering them on. But this offseason has been a wild ride, and I’m not sure where we’re headed. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I just hope they know what they’re doing. Go O’s, I guess? I need a drink.
