Okay, so today I got to officiate a volleyball game. It was, uh, a pretty interesting experience, and I figured I’d jot down how it all went.

Getting Started
First off, I showed up early. You know, gotta make sure everything’s set. I checked the net – made sure it was the right height and tight enough. Nobody wants a saggy net messing up the game, right?
Then, I gathered the captains for the coin toss. Pretty standard stuff. We decided who served first and which side of the court each team would start on.
During the Game
Once the game started, it was all about keeping my eyes peeled. I watched for foot faults on the service line – you gotta make sure those toes stay behind the line! I also kept track of the score, of course. Shouted it out nice and loud after each point, so everyone knew what was up.
- Called out any net violations. You know, when a player touches the net during play.
- Watched for illegal hits, like carries or double contacts. It’s not always easy to see, but you do your best.
- Signaled the subs in and out of the game and make sure no more than 12 subs per set per team.
- Signaled time-outs when the coaches requested them.
Honestly, the toughest part was probably keeping track of all the players rotating in and out. Sometimes it felt like a whirlwind of jerseys, but I managed to stay on top of it… mostly.
Wrapping Up
After the final point, I shook hands with the coaches and players. Good sportsmanship and all that. Then, I helped put away the net and other equipment. All in a day’s work, I guess.
It wasn’t perfect, I’m sure I messed up few calls along the way. But overall I think I have done a pretty decent job, I officiated my best for this game. It’s a bit tiring to watch every details, and remembering to do and signaling all those stuff, but still, it was pretty fun!
