Okay, so, I decided to do a little experiment today, a “mock draft” for the New York Jets. I’ve been following them for a while, and with the 2024 NFL draft coming up, I thought, why not try to predict what they might do?
First off, I needed to know how many picks the Jets have this year. Turns out, they’ve got seven. Not bad, right? The big one is their No. 10 pick in the first round. Remember, they traded their second-round pick to the Packers to get Aaron Rodgers last year, and they’re also missing a fifth-rounder.
I started by looking at the team’s needs. It’s pretty obvious they need some serious help on offense. After that whole Aaron Rodgers thing, maybe they’re in the market for a new quarterback? Or, maybe a new tight end? Everyone is talking about this Brock Bowers from Georgia, saying he’s a game-changer. That’s where I started to check up on him.
I spent a good chunk of the morning on this, digging through articles, and forum discussions, trying to get a feel for what the experts are saying and what the fans want. It’s a mixed bag, to be honest. Some are all about getting a solid offensive lineman, others are shouting for a top-tier wide receiver. Also, there are many saying that the Jets will select Jordan Travis. That is amazing! I was so excited about this possibility.
Then, I started making my own mock draft. Here’s where it got tricky. With the No. 10 pick, I went back and forth. Do I go with what many people are thinking, and pick up that tight end, Bowers? Or, do I take a gamble and grab an offensive tackle to beef up the line?
- Round 1, Pick 10: I finally decided to go with Bowers. I mean, the guy’s stats are insane, and he could be a real weapon for whoever ends up playing quarterback for the Jets.
- Round 3: Here, I thought, let’s focus on the offensive line. I picked a tackle that I think could be a good fit.
- Round 4: Defense! I went with a cornerback that caught my eye.
- Round 5: To everyone’s surprise, I picked QB Jordan Travis from Florida State! Maybe he can become a star in the future.
- Round 6: Back to the offense, I went with a wide receiver.
- Round 7: With the last two picks, I added another defensive player and another offensive player, just to round things out.
Honestly, it was way harder than I thought it would be. You really have to think about team needs, player potential, and even the personalities of the coaches and GM. After hours of tinkering, I felt pretty good about my choices.
Of course, this is all just for fun. We’ll have to wait and see what the Jets actually do in the draft. But hey, it was a blast playing armchair GM for a day. I’ll definitely be following the draft closely to see how close I got.
I highly recommend trying this out for your favorite team. It gives you a whole new perspective on the draft process. If you do, let me know your picks, I would love to compare notes!
