Okay, so, today I wanted to share my experience with the Montreal Basketball League (MBL) release. It’s been a bit of a journey, let me tell you.
First off, I heard about this new league starting up in Montreal. They were calling it the “Toundra” or something like that. Apparently, we haven’t had a pro team here in, like, 10 years. So, I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I signed up on their website. It was pretty simple, just had to fill out some forms and stuff.
Next, I waited for the schedule to come out. I was pretty excited to see when and where we’d be playing. Finally, they posted it on the website. It wasn’t the easiest thing to find, but I eventually located it under the “Schedules” tab. It listed all the game times and locations. Turns out, most of our games are at the Centre Pierre Charbonneau. I checked it out. It looks like a decent place to play.
Then came the waiting game. I kept checking the MBL website for updates. There was this one time they said the league was postponed until January 17th. That was a bit of a bummer, but hey, these things happen. They promised to keep us updated, so I just stayed patient.
During this time, I also looked up some news about the MBL. I found this article about some “Quebec Pioneers” team and a guy named Cyrille Poitevineau-Millin, who’s apparently the CEO. Seemed like they were trying to get things going, but it wasn’t super clear what was happening with that.
I also stumbled upon something about a “Leader of the Pack” tournament. I guess they had three of them already. I clicked on some button to see the champions, but it didn’t really tell me much. They also mentioned something about practice schedules, but I didn’t really care about that at the time.
Finally, I saw a post on their Instagram, it was just a picture with some text, nothing too exciting. But at least it showed they were still active, I guess.
The Website
Oh, and about their website… It’s got this option to switch between English and French, which is cool. They have sections for “News,” “Schedules,” and “Standings”. There was also a “2024 Playoffs” section, but it didn’t have much info when I checked.
So yeah, that’s pretty much my experience with the MBL release so far. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, with some waiting and some confusion. But I’m still hopeful that things will get going soon. I mean, it would be great to have a pro basketball team in Montreal again, right? We will see.
