Okay, so I wanted to get a handle on how to best capture and share post-game interviews, specifically focusing on Nebraska volleyball. I’ve always admired their program, and the interviews always seem to be insightful. Here’s how I went about tackling this.
First, I watched a ton of old interviews. I mean, I really dove in. I spent hours just observing. I wanted to see how different coaches and players handled themselves, what kinds of questions were asked, and the overall vibe.
Watching and Taking Notes
- I started by just passively watching, letting it all soak in.
- Then, I started taking notes. I jot down key phrases, common themes, and anything that stood out. Stuff like how the coach praised specific players, how they addressed losses, or how players described key moments in the game.
- I even try to record Body Language. I paused a lot of these videos.
After the watching phase, I moved on to trying to organize my thoughts. I needed a way to categorize the information so I could actually use it later. I decided to focus on a few key areas:
- Coach’s Corner: What did the coach emphasize? Strategy, player performance, areas for improvement?
- Player Perspectives: How did the players describe their experience? What were their emotions?
- Key Plays: What were the defining moments of the game, according to both the coach and players?
- Opponent Analysis: Did they mention anything specific about the opposing team’s strategy or players?
Then, I figured I should create a recording and practice.
I set my phone camera to record, and act as a coach and player to interview.
Finally, I realized it’s all about practice and repetition. The more I watch and analyze these interviews, and the more I practice, the better I’ll get at understanding the nuances and capturing the essence of a good post-game interview. It’s a work in progress, but it’s been a fun and enlightening process so far!
