Today, I wanna talk about something that’s been on my mind lately – the Copa del Rey. You know, that Spanish football cup competition? Yeah, that one. I’ve been digging into it, and man, there’s a lot to unpack.

So, I started off just casually browsing, you know, looking up who’s won it the most. And guess what? It’s Barcelona, hands down. I mean, 31 titles! That’s insane. I knew they were good, but damn, they really dominate this competition.
- Barcelona – 31 titles
- Athletic Club – 23 titles
- Real Madrid – they’re in the mix too, but not as many as Barca
Then, I got curious about other teams. Like, who else is up there? Turns out, Athletic Club is second with 23 wins. Not bad, not bad at all. And of course, Real Madrid is there too, but they’re trailing behind Barcelona in this one. It’s kinda funny, ’cause you always hear about how Real Madrid is the best and all that, but in the Copa del Rey, it’s all about Barcelona.
I even stumbled upon this little tidbit about a foreign team winning it once. Can you believe it? Motherwell, a Scottish team, actually won the Copa del Rey way back when. It’s such a random but cool piece of history. I love finding out stuff like this; it makes the whole thing even more interesting.
And then there’s Real Mallorca. They had their moment in the late 90s and early 2000s, even getting third place in La Liga a couple of times. They won the Copa del Rey in 2003, which must have been huge for them. They were in the finals before that in 1991 but didn’t win. I can only imagine how sweet that 2003 victory must have felt after coming so close before.
So yeah, that’s basically what I’ve been up to today. Just diving into the world of the Copa del Rey and learning all sorts of random facts. It’s been a good time, honestly. I feel like I’ve got a better grasp on the whole competition now, and it’s definitely given me a new appreciation for Barcelona’s dominance.
Anyway, that’s my little football ramble for the day. Hope you found it at least somewhat interesting. Catch you guys later!
