Alright, so, a few weeks ago, I decided to dive deep into the world of Long Island Lutheran basketball. I had heard some buzz about them and figured, why not check it out for myself? So, I started digging around.

First things first, I needed to find out where this place even was. Turns out, it’s nestled right in Brookville, in the 11545 zip code. Not too far a drive, which was a good start.
Then, I went on a hunt for some basic info – you know, who they are, what they’re about. I stumbled upon their official athletics page, tagged under Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School Athletics. They have this “Boys Elite Basketball” page, and that’s where I hit the jackpot of information.
I started thinking about how cool it would be to see a game, especially since I heard they might have some local Long Island guys on the roster this year. That would be something to see, local talent shining on their home turf.
Next, I dug into the schedule and stats. They had a pretty decent record, 11 wins and 8 losses overall, and 11-5 in their independent games. Not too shabby, I thought.
Then I checked out the roster for the 2024-25 season. They listed it out nice and clear on their site. I noticed there was a variety of players, including a 5’10” guard. That’s always interesting to see, how different heights play out on the court. I also read up on the head coach, who’s been with LuHi since 2007. This guy started as a math and ethics teacher and even served as the Dean of Students. I got a sense that he really cares about building relationships with the students, which is pretty awesome.
I learned that LuHi isn’t just about the varsity level. They’ve got middle school and junior varsity teams too, all part of the LIAAIS and PSAA leagues. It seemed like a solid program from top to bottom.

But then I shifted my focus to what really makes a team tick – the competition. Long Island Lutheran plays in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and is part of the NCAA Division III. They are talking about high-performance competition. That’s where the real action is, right?
So, after all this digging and exploring, I’ve gotten a pretty good feel for Long Island Lutheran basketball. They’ve got a strong program, a dedicated coach, and they’re playing in a competitive league. Now, I’m really itching to catch a game and see them in action. Maybe I’ll even make it a regular thing this season.
