Okay, so today I messed around with “mini games of America volleyball.” It wasn’t some official thing, just me and a few friends trying to spice up our regular volleyball practice. We were getting a little bored with the usual drills, you know?

Getting Started
>
First, we brainstormed some ideas. We wanted games that were quick, focused on specific skills, and, most importantly, fun. We weren’t trying to become Olympic athletes here, just have a good time and maybe get a little better at volleyball in the process.
The Mini Games We Tried
>
- Pepper Partner Challenge: We just did your regular pepper, then add score to spice it up.
- Serving Accuracy: Then did serving. We Set up some targets (cones, towels, whatever we could find) in the court and tried to hit them with our serves. Points for accuracy, bragging rights for whoever got the most.
- Setting Duel: Next was setting. Two setters faced each other, one ball. They had to set the ball back and forth, keeping it within a certain area. If the ball dropped or went out of bounds, the other person got a point.
- King/Queen of the Court (but smaller): This one’s a classic, but we made the court smaller. Two-on-two, or even one-on-one, with a tiny playing area. Quick games, lots of action.
My Personal Takeaways
I started out pretty rusty, especially with the serving accuracy game. My serves were all over the place! But after a few rounds, I started to get the hang of it. It was actually really satisfying to nail a serve right on the target.
The setting duel was surprisingly intense. It’s all about control and quick reflexes. I lost most of the rounds, my friend is very good at setting, but I definitely felt my setting getting more consistent as we went on.
The mini King/Queen of the Court was probably the most fun. The smaller court forced us to be more creative with our shots and react faster. Lots of diving and quick plays.

The End Result
By the end, we were all sweaty and tired, but in a good way. It was way more fun than our usual practice routine, and the best is that it was easy to play and quick. And the next time, I will definitely try to incorporate a bit of competition to spice things up.
It was a good reminder that you don’t always need a full court and a big group to enjoy volleyball. These mini-games were a perfect way to kill some time, improve our skills, and have a laugh.
