Today, I was feeling a bit nostalgic and started to think about all the awesome Latino players in the NBA. So, I decided to do a deep dive and make a list of my favorites.
First, I opened my browser and typed in “Latino NBA players.” I got a bunch of results, but I wanted to make sure I had the most up-to-date information. I clicked on a few different articles and started taking notes. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I managed to narrow it down.
I remembered seeing some articles about the percentage of Latino players in the NBA. One report from a guy named Richard Lapchick said that in 2023, only 2.2 percent of NBA players were Latino. That’s a pretty small number, but the ones who are there sure make an impact!
I also stumbled upon some cool stories, like that of Juan Toscano-Anderson, who won an NBA championship with the Warriors in 2022. He’s only the second player of Mexican descent to do that. Pretty inspiring stuff!
Next, I started making a list of the players I already knew, like Al Horford and Manu Ginobili. I mean, who could forget Ginobili? That guy was a legend! And Horford is still going strong with the Celtics. I also added Chris Duarte to the list. Then, I cross-referenced this with the articles I found to see if I was missing anyone. I found a few more names I wasn’t as familiar with, so I looked them up too.
After a few hours of searching and compiling, I finally had a list I was happy with. I decided to organize it by their country of origin just to make it a bit more interesting.
My Favorite Latino NBA Players:
- Argentina:
- Manu Ginobili
- Dominican Republic:
- Al Horford
- Chris Duarte
- USA(Born in New Orleans, Louisiana):
- Kelly Oubre Jr.
It was a fun trip down memory lane, and I learned a few things along the way. I’m really proud of all the Latino players in the NBA and the impact they’ve had on the game.
I might make this a regular thing and update the list every season. It’s a great way to keep track of all the amazing Latino talent in the league.
