Alright, so the other day I was watching a volleyball game, and this question popped into my head: can you actually kick the ball? I mean, we always see players diving and using their hands, but what about their feet?

My Experiment Begins
So, I grabbed my volleyball and headed to the park. I figured I’d start by just trying to keep the ball in the air using only my feet. It was way harder than I expected!
- First try: I totally whiffed. The ball just rolled away.
- Second try: I managed a couple of weak kicks, but the ball went sideways.
- Third try: I finally got some decent height, but zero control.
Digging Deeper
After messing around for a while, I decided to check the rule book. I googled “FIVB volleyball rules” and voila! It turns out, it’s totally legal to kick the ball. I was doing something.
Putting It All Together
Knowing it was legal, I went back to practicing. I focused on using the inside of my foot, like a soccer pass, instead of just wildly kicking at it. I tried to set the ball to myself with my foot. I even attempted a few “foot saves” by sprawling out and kicking the ball upwards as if it was my last hope.
It was still super tricky, but I did manage to keep the ball in play a few times using only my feet. Definitely not as effective as using my hands, but hey, it’s a legal move! Now I can keep up when I play the game.
