So, I’ve been meaning to get back into basketball for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. I heard about this place called Jump Ball Basketball in Cherry Hill, and figured, why not give it a shot? I mean, I haven’t seriously played since high school, but how hard could it be to get back into the groove, right?
First off, finding the place was a bit of a mission. It’s tucked away in this industrial park, not exactly where you’d expect to find a basketball court. But once I got there, I was pretty impressed. The facility was huge! They’ve got like, multiple courts, all shiny and new-looking.
I signed up for one of their open gym sessions. Walked in, paid my fee, and started to warm up. Man, I felt rusty. My jump shot was way off, and dribbling felt like I was trying to control a greased pig. But hey, it was all in good fun.
There were a bunch of other people there, all different skill levels. Some were clearly regulars, running drills and looking like they knew what they were doing. Others, like me, were just trying to remember how to play without embarrassing ourselves too much.
We ended up playing a few pickup games. I won’t lie, I got schooled a few times. These guys were quick, agile, and their shots were falling like rain. But I managed to hold my own, sort of. Scored a few baskets, grabbed some rebounds, even made a decent pass or two.
Getting into the Game
- Warming up: Started with some basic stretches and light jogging. Felt pretty stiff, not gonna lie.
- Shooting practice: Tried to find my rhythm. My shot was all over the place, but slowly started to get better.
- Dribbling drills: Felt like a beginner again. Ball control was definitely not my strong suit at first.
- Pickup games: This is where the real action happened. Played a few games, got a good sweat going, and had a blast.
By the end of the session, I was exhausted but exhilarated. It was awesome to be back on the court, even if I wasn’t exactly tearing it up. Definitely going to make this a regular thing. I mean, it’s a great workout, and it’s way more fun than just hitting the treadmill.
If you’re in the Cherry Hill area and looking for a place to shoot some hoops, I’d say give Jump Ball Basketball a try. Just be prepared to work up a sweat, and maybe get humbled a little if you haven’t played in a while. It’s all good though, everyone’s there to have a good time and enjoy the game.
