Okay, so I’ve been getting into volleyball lately, and I had this basic question: Is volleyball always played indoors? Like, is it only an indoor sport? I decided to figure this out, and here’s what I did.

My Little Investigation
First, I just did what anyone would do – I Googled it. I typed in “is volleyball indoor or outdoor” and started reading. Turns out, there are different types of volleyball.
- Indoor Volleyball: This is the one I was most familiar with. It’s played on a hard court, usually inside a gym.
- Beach Volleyball: This is obviously played on sand, outdoors. I’ve seen this on TV, at the Olympics and stuff.
- There’s like other variations, even on grass that I really tried.
So, my initial thought that it was just indoor was totally wrong.
Trying Stuff Out
I’ve played indoor volleyball a few times with friends at the local rec center. It’s a pretty fast-paced game, and the hard floor makes the ball bounce quick. I even watched some game in a formal place.
But, inspired by my Googling, I also tried beach volleyball. A friend has a net we set up at a park with a sandy area. It was way different. The sand makes it harder to move, and the ball doesn’t bounce the same way. It was a lot more casual and, honestly, more tiring!
My Conclusion (For Now)
So, to answer my own question: No, volleyball is NOT just an indoor game. There’s a whole world of beach volleyball (and probably other types) that I didn’t even realize. I’m still a beginner, but it’s cool to know there are different ways to play!
