Okay, so today I decided to get back into volleyball. It’s been a while, honestly. I used to play a bit in high school, but that was… well, let’s just say it was a long time ago. First thing I did was find my old volleyball. It was hiding in the back of the closet, deflated and looking pretty sad.

Step one: Pump up the ball. This took longer than I expected! My arms were already getting tired, and I hadn’t even started playing yet. Note to self: invest in a better pump.
Next, I needed a place to play. My backyard is tiny, so that was out. I remembered there’s a park nearby with a sand volleyball court. Perfect!
- Grabbed the ball.
- Put on some sunscreen.
- Walked to the park.
The Actual Playing Part
When I got to the park, the court was empty. Score! I started with some basic serving practice. It was…rough. The first few serves went straight into the net. Then I overcorrected, and the ball sailed way out of bounds. It took a good ten minutes of just serving before I felt like I had any control at all.
After serving, I tried some bumping and setting. Bumping was okay. My forearms remembered the feeling, even if my aim was a bit off. Setting was another story. My fingers kept fumbling the ball, and it went everywhere except where I wanted it to go.
After about an hour, a couple of other people showed up. We ended up playing a very casual, very low-stakes game. It was mostly just us chasing the ball around and laughing a lot. I definitely wasn’t “good,” but it was still fun. I even managed to spike the ball once, which felt pretty awesome, even if it was probably more luck than skill.
By the end, I was sweaty, sandy, and surprisingly tired. But it felt good to be active and do something I used to enjoy. It reminded me that even if you’re not great at something, you can still have a blast doing it. I’m already planning to go back next week. Maybe I’ll even practice my setting before then… maybe.
