Okay, so today I got to officiate a volleyball game. It was a local league match, nothing too fancy, but still a good experience. I’ve been trying to get more involved in the volleyball community, and reffing seemed like a good way to do it.

Getting Started
First thing, I arrived early at the venue. I wanted to make sure I had time to check the net height, you know, make sure it’s all regulation and stuff. Then I inspected the court, looking for any hazards. Safety first, right?
The Pre-Game Ritual
Next up, I met with the captains and coaches of both teams. We did the coin toss – classic! – to determine who served first and which side of the court they wanted. I also went over the ground rules, just to make sure everyone was on the same page. Nothing worse than confusion mid-game.
Game Time!
- I blew the whistle to start the match, and we were off!
- Throughout the game, I kept my eyes peeled. Had to watch for foot faults, net touches, double hits – all the usual stuff.
- Whenever there was a call to make, I used the standard hand signals. You know, try to make it clear for everyone what’s going on.
- A couple of times, players had questions about calls. I listened to their concerns and explained my reasoning as calmly as possible. Can’t have things getting heated, you know?
- Had to call the game.
Wrapping Up
After the last point, I signed the scoresheet and thanked both teams for playing. It was a pretty clean game, overall, which made my job easier. And, I reviewed the scoresheet, ensure all recording is corrected.
All in all, it was a good day of officiating. I felt like I did a decent job, and it was fun being part of the action. Looking forward to doing it again soon!
