Okay, so the other day, I was watching a volleyball game with my friend, and we got into this whole debate about how many points a game is played to. I thought I knew, but then I started second-guessing myself. So, I decided to do some digging and figure it out once and for all.

My Little Research Journey
First, I grabbed my phone and started Googling. I typed in something like “volleyball game points” and scrolled through a bunch of websites. It was kind of confusing at first because there seemed to be different answers depending on the type of game.
Then, I remembered there are different rules for different levels of play, like high school, college, and professional. So, I refined my search and looked specifically for the rules I was interested in – regular season games.
Figuring It Out
After reading through a few articles and rulebooks (which, let’s be honest, weren’t the most exciting reads), I finally got the gist of it.
- Most games: I found out that most volleyball games are played to 25 points. But here’s the catch – you gotta win by 2 points. So, if it’s 24-24, you keep playing until one team is ahead by two.
- Deciding set: It got a little more complicated when thinking about sets. I figured if the match is tied (like 2 sets each), you will play a deciding fifth set. But it turns out that the fifth set is only played to 15 points. Again, the win-by-two rule applies.
Putting It All Together
So, basically, I learned that it’s usually 25 points to win a game, but you need that 2-point lead. And for that final, tie-breaker set, it’s a race to 15, with the same 2-point rule. It took a bit of searching, I figured out and it’s clear. Next time I will be ready when having a debate with my friend!
