Okay, so the other day, I was trying to figure out how long a volleyball game usually lasts. I had some friends coming over to watch a match, and I wanted to give them a heads-up about the time commitment. Here’s how I went about figuring it out:

My Little Research Journey
First, I jumped onto the internet. I figured, “Someone’s gotta have written about this, right?” So, I typed in something like “volleyball game length” into the search bar.
I found some official-looking websites and some forums where people were chatting about it. Seemed promising!
I started reading through a few articles. Most of them were saying the same * goes like this.
- Most matches are “best-of-five” sets. This means the first team to win three sets wins the whole match.
- The first four sets go up to 25 points. But here’s the catch – you gotta win by at least two points.
- So, if it’s 24-24, you can’t win with just one more point. You need to get to 26-24, or 27-25, and so on.
I digested that info for a bit. Then, it hit me, that fifth set, if they even get to it, is played to only 15 points instead of 25,and also win by two points.
So, in the “short” matches, they only played to three sets and finished quickly, less than an * for those “long” matches, when they played all five sets,it took almost two hours.
After figuring all this out, I messaged my friends and told them. I explained the whole “best-of-five” thing and the two-point rule, so they knew what they were getting into.
