Okay, so I wanted to figure out how a volleyball game actually kicks off. You know, like, how does it really start? I’ve watched games, but I wanted the nitty-gritty details.

Getting Started: The Coin Toss
First, I learned, there is an old coin toss. I flipped a coin myself, just to get in the spirit. Heads for one team, tails for the other. Classic!
Figuring Out Who Serves First
Then I looked at the service order, I realized it’s not just random. The coin toss winner gets to choose – they can either serve first, receive first, or pick which side of the court they want to start on. I jotted that down in my notebook – choices, choices!
- Option 1: Serve First.
- Option 2: Receive First.
- Option 3: Choose court side.
The Actual Serve
Next up, I needed to check the serve itself. I practiced a few imaginary serves in my living room (no volleyballs were harmed!). The server, after the referee whistles, has to send the ball over the net and * there you have it.I understood, the ball goes back and forth until it drops.
So, that’s how I figured out the start of a volleyball game. It’s more than just hitting the ball – there’s a whole setup and strategy involved, even before the first point is scored. I documented this to share. Cool, right?
