So, I was messing around with this “gm sports” thing today. It all started when I was trying to find a new way to keep track of my workouts. You know, something a bit more… I dunno, interactive than just scribbling stuff in a notebook.

First, I poked around online, looking for apps or websites or whatever. I stumbled across a few things that mentioned “gm sports,” but honestly, it was all pretty vague. Lots of buzzwords, not a lot of clear explanations. I almost gave up right there.
Digging Deeper
But I’m stubborn, so I kept digging. I started playing around with different search terms, trying to get more specific. Finally, I found some forums where people were talking about using game mechanics – you know, like points and levels and stuff – to motivate themselves to exercise.
Bingo! That’s what I was looking for. I wanted something that would make working out feel less like a chore and more like, well, a game.
My Experiment
- Step 1: Choose My Activities. I decided to focus on running and bodyweight exercises, since that’s what I usually do anyway.
- Step 2: Set Up a Points System. Okay, this took some tweaking. I started with something simple: 1 point per minute of running, 5 points per set of push-ups, 5 points per set of squats, etc.
- Step 3: Track My Progress. I just used a plain old spreadsheet for this. Nothing fancy. I made columns for the date, the activity, the points earned, and a running total.
- Step 4: Level Up! (Maybe?) I haven’t actually gotten to this part yet, but I’m thinking of setting point goals for “leveling up.” Like, maybe at 100 points, I’m Level 2, and I get… bragging rights? I haven’t figured out the rewards yet. Maybe I buy new run shoes?
It is really a simple thing I set up, and it’s kind of silly, but it’s actually working! Seeing those points add up is surprisingly motivating. I even found myself doing an extra set of push-ups yesterday just to get to the next “level” in my spreadsheet.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’m having fun with it. Who knows, maybe I’ll actually stick to my workout routine this time! I need some reward ideas. And it would be cool find a tool to track automatically my points.
