Okay, here’s my personal take on mentally preparing for a volleyball game, shared as if I’m a blogger who loves documenting my experiences:

Alright, so I’ve been playing volleyball for a while now, and one thing I’ve learned is that the mental game is HUGE. It’s not just about how well you can spike or set; it’s about what’s going on in your head before and during the game. So, I wanted to share how I personally get my mind right before hitting the court.
Getting Started: The Night Before
It all starts the night before, really. I used to just kinda wing it, show up, and hope for the best. Big mistake! Now, I make sure to do a few things:
- Pack my bag. Sounds simple, but seriously, having my gear ready (shoes, knee pads, water bottle, everything) just takes away one less thing to stress about in the morning.
- Eat a decent dinner. Nothing too heavy, but something that’ll give me sustained energy. I’ve learned the hard way that playing on an empty stomach, or after eating junk, is a recipe for disaster.
- Visualize success.I found some videos that can relax.I close my eyes and picture myself making good passes, setting up teammates, and even getting a few killer blocks.
- Get enough sleep! I’m a zombie without my 7-8 hours.
Game Day: The Mental Warm-up
On game day, it’s go-time, mentally speaking. Here’s my routine:
- Positive self-talk. On the way to the game, I’m all about pumping myself up. I’ll literally tell myself, “You got this,” “You’re a strong player,” “You’re going to have fun.” Might sound cheesy, but it works!I chose my favorite music and singing with it.
- Team huddle.I must be the first person in the * we even start warming up physically, we get together as a team. We talk about our strategy, sure, but it’s more about connecting with each other, building that team energy.
- Focus on the present. During the warm-up, I’m not thinking about that mistake I made last week, or that tough opponent we’re facing. I’m 100% focused on the ball, my body, and the feel of the court.
During the Game: Staying in the Zone
Even with all the prep, things can get intense during the game. Here’s how I keep my head on straight:
- Deep breaths. If I make a mistake, or the other team scores a point, I take a deep breath. It’s like a mini reset button.
- Short memory. Made a bad pass? Forget it. Missed a serve? Next one’s going in. Dwelling on mistakes just messes you up for the next play.
- Celebrate the small wins. Did your teammate make a great dig? High-five them! Did you get a good touch on a block? Acknowledge it! Keeping the energy positive is key.
- Trust your teammates. Volleyball is a team sport, through and through. I remind myself that I don’t have to do it all. I trust my teammates to have my back, and they trust me to have theirs.
After match
After the match,we reviewed today’s match detail to find shortages, then we can get more expriences.

So yeah, that’s my personal mental game plan. It’s not rocket science, but it’s made a huge difference in my performance and enjoyment of the game. It’s all about finding what works for you and sticking with it. Now, if any one wanna try to have a match, just call me!
