So, today I got curious about the Germany men’s volleyball team. I’ve been seeing their name pop up a lot lately, and I wanted to know more about them. You know how it is, you get curious about something, and suddenly you’re down a rabbit hole. Well, that’s where I was today.
I started by doing a simple search online, just typing in “Germany men’s volleyball team” to see what would come up. The first few results gave me a general idea. There are some official-looking profiles with movies and news, but I didn’t check them out, I wanted more details.
Then I found something that talked about their roster, their full team composition in some arena. It says “South Paris Arena 1” and it has a date of July 25th, 2024. That’s pretty recent! I’m guessing it’s for the upcoming Olympics.
Next, I tried to search for some statistics. I stumbled upon this site that claimed to have a ton of sports results and rankings. It looked promising, but it was a bit overwhelming. I did see something about the team being governed by something called the DVV, which I learned is the Deutscher Volleyball-Verband. Sounds important.
After that, I dug a little deeper into their recent performance. I saw that they dropped a few places in the rankings from 2018 to 2019. They went from 9th to 14th. Ouch, that’s a bit of a drop. I wondered what happened there, but I couldn’t find anything about it.
I also watched some video highlights. There was a match where Team USA played against Germany. It was a close game, going to five sets! There was this crazy play by someone named DeFalco that helped the US win the second set. It was an insane solo play, really impressive.

- World Championships: Apparently, they’ve only won one medal, a bronze, back in 2014. Their performance has been kind of hit or miss since reunification.
- European Championships: It’s a similar story here. They got a silver medal in 2017, but that’s their only medal.
Then I saw something about the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. The article I read was talking about France winning back-to-back golds, beating Poland. It seems like France is the team to beat right now.
So, after all this, I feel like I have a decent understanding of the Germany men’s volleyball team. They’re a solid team with some history, but they’ve had their ups and downs. It will be interesting to see how they do in the upcoming Olympics. That’s my little adventure for today. It’s always fun to learn something new, even if it’s just about a sports team.
