Okay, so I wanted to spice up our usual volleyball practice, make it a bit more fun for the kids. I decided to look up some “fun youth volleyball games” to get some fresh ideas.

First, I gathered all the kids in a circle. I wanted to get their energy up, so I started with a simple game I found – “Keep It Up.”
- I tossed the volleyball in the air.
- The goal was for them to keep it from hitting the ground, using only their hands.
- They started to work as team, really.
It was a bit chaotic at first, with lots of giggles and missed hits, but they quickly got the hang of it. We counted how many times they could keep it up in a row. Their highest score was 15! Not bad for a warm-up.
Moving on with more challenge
Next, I introduced a game called “Volleyball Scramble”. This one was a bit more challenging.
- I divided the kids into two teams.
- I set up some cones as “bases” on each side of the net.
- After a serve, if the receiving team got the ball over the net, they had to run and touch a cone on the other side before the other team could get the ball back over.
This game really got them moving! There was a lot of running, diving, and quick thinking. It forced them to not only practice their volleyball skills, but also their agility and teamwork. Seeing them strategize and cheer each other on was awesome.
Cooling down
To cool down, we played a calmer game called “Target Practice.”
- I placed a hula hoop on the ground on one side of the net.
- Each kid got a chance to serve, trying to get the ball to land inside the hoop.
This was great for focusing on their serving accuracy. It was less about running around and more about control and precision.

By the end of the practice, everyone was tired but smiling. The new games definitely added a fun twist to our usual routine. I think mixing things up like this keeps the kids engaged and motivated, and it’s a great way to build teamwork and improve their skills without them even realizing they’re working hard!
