Okay, so I’ve been trying to spice up my volleyball practice, make it a little less drill-heavy and a bit more, you know, fun. So I started looking into different games you can play with a volleyball, beyond just, like, a regular match.

Digging Around for Ideas
I started by, well, hitting the internet. I just Googled stuff like “volleyball games” and “fun volleyball drills.” Found a bunch of websites and videos, some helpful, some not so much. I also asked around at my volleyball club. Some of the older players had some cool ideas that they used to do back in the day.
The Games We Tried
We ended up trying a bunch of different stuff. Here’s a rundown of some of the ones we played, and how it went:
- Pepper: This is a classic. You just need two people. One person tosses the ball, the other person passes, sets, and then hits it back. We did this as a warm-up a lot. It’s good for getting your touches in and working on control.
- Wall Passing: I spent some time just passing the ball against a wall. Sounds kinda boring, but it’s actually a great way to work on your platform and consistency. I found that the more I focus on my platform, the better passing I have.
- Volleyball Tennis,No using hands.: So, we divided the court into smaller sections with cones. The basic idea is you play tennis, but volleyball style,No hand, only use legs. It was chaotic at first, but pretty fun once we got the hang of it. It’s good for reaction time and quick thinking.
- Target Practice: We set up some targets (cones, buckets, whatever) on the court and tried to serve or hit the ball into them. This was good for working on accuracy. I was really bad at this at first, but I got better with practice. It’s surprisingly satisfying when you actually hit the target!
- King/Queen of the Court:There are many versions of this * set a rule. One side of the net has one person (the “king” or “queen”) and the other side has a line of people. You play out a point, and if the king/queen wins, they stay on, and the person at the front of the line rotates out. If the challenger wins, they become the new king/queen. This one was super competitive and got everyone really hyped up.
What I Learned
Basically, mixing things up with these games made practice way more engaging. I found myself looking forward to practice more, and I think it actually helped my skills improve, too. It’s not just about drilling the same things over and over. Sometimes you gotta have a little fun to get better!
It’s worth trying some of these to improve your skill.
