Okay, so yesterday I decided to spice up our volleyball practice. We’ve been doing the same drills over and over, and, honestly, it was getting a bit stale. I figured some games would be a good way to keep things fun while still working on skills.

Setting the Stage
First, I split the team into smaller groups. This way, everyone gets more touches on the ball, and there’s less standing around. I made sure to mix up the skill levels, so each team had a good balance of setters, hitters, and passers.
Game Time!
-
“King/Queen of the Court” – This one is a classic. One team starts on one side, and the other teams line up to challenge them. You play a quick rally, and whoever wins stays on the court. It’s great for practicing quick transitions and staying aggressive.
-
“Target Practice” – I set up some cones and targets on the court. The goal is to serve or hit the ball to specific spots. This one’s great for accuracy and control. We made it a competition, of course, with points for hitting the targets. Keeps it interesting!
-
“Short Court Scramble” – Basically I made the court to 10ft, and the goal is the same. This forces shorter rallies and quicker reactions. I found this really helped with defensive reflexes and quick thinking.
The Wrap-Up
By the end of practice, everyone was sweaty but smiling. Mixing in these games definitely boosted the energy levels. I noticed that the players were more engaged, and they were actually pushing themselves harder because they were having fun. Will defintely keep using them in future.
