I finally found a couple of sites that seemed promising. They both mentioned the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Bingo! That’s where volleyball made its official Olympic debut.
I started to compare the information on the different sites, making sure the facts lined up. One site mentioned that the men’s tournament was won by the Soviet Union, and the women’s tournament by Japan. Another website had the very same details, so I felt pretty confident that was correct.
