Okay, so, today I was messing around with crossword puzzles, and I got stuck on this one clue: “entertain.” It got me thinking, “How many different ways can you actually solve this?” So, I started digging around.

First, I tried a bunch of crossword solver websites. I typed in the clue, and guess what? One site spit out like 40 possible answers! 40! I was like, “Whoa, that’s a lot.” Another site gave me 30, which is still a ton. It was kind of overwhelming, to be honest.
Then, I started looking at specific puzzles. It turns out “entertain” has been a clue in all sorts of puzzles, like the LA Times one and some puzzle called the Eugene Sheffer. I saw that the clue had shown up as recently as, like, a few weeks ago. So, it’s a pretty common one, apparently.
After that, I looked at the answers based on how many letters they had. People online were posting answers with anywhere from 3 to 13 letters! I mean, how crazy is that? A 3-letter word and a 13-letter word can both mean “entertain,” it is amazing right?
I was feeling a little lost in all these answers, so I just picked one that seemed common: “AMUSE.” It’s a simple five-letter word, and it totally fits.
Here’s what I did:
- Searched for the clue “entertain” on a bunch of crossword solver websites.
- Checked specific crossword puzzles to see when the clue last appeared.
- Noticed that the answers ranged from 3 to 13 letters.
- Focused on the most common answer, “AMUSE.”
It was a fun little exercise, going down this rabbit hole of crossword clues. It really showed me how many different ways you can express a single idea. And how much I still don’t know about words, haha! I might try to keep a list of all the “entertain” answers I found. Maybe it’ll help me with future puzzles. Or maybe I’ll just stick to easier clues. We’ll see!
