Okay, so today I wanted to get my kids moving and having some fun. I remembered those simple volleyball games we used to play in elementary school, and figured, why not give them a shot?

Setting Up
First, I gathered the essentials. I mean, you really don’t need much.
- A balloon (because a real volleyball can be a bit much for little ones).
- Some string (to act as a makeshift net).
- A clear space (I just moved some furniture in the living room).
I tied the string across the room, making sure it was low enough for the kids to easily hit the balloon over. Not too low, though, we still wanted a bit of a challenge!
Game Time!
Next up: explaining the rules. I kept it super simple. I explained the very basic like, hit it over the net. No grabbing, no holding. Just tap, tap, tap.
We started with just trying to keep the balloon in the air. No sides, no teams, just cooperative play. My youngest was especially thrilled with every successful tap. It was all about building some confidence and getting used to the idea.
After a while, I introduced the net. We divided into two “teams”—it was me and my youngest against my oldest. The goal was to get the balloon over the net and have it land on the other side. I avoided to make it serious competition, just lightly tapping the balloon.
We played like that for a good while, making up silly rules as we went. If the balloon hit the ceiling, it was a “sky point.” If it bounced off the dog, it was a “dog assist.”

Cooling Down
Eventually, everyone started to get tired (including me!). We finished up the game, and I congratulated the team a lot.
It was a surprisingly good workout, and the kids had a blast. It might not have been “real” volleyball, but it was a perfect way to spend an afternoon. And hey, we all got some exercise and made some fun memories. Success!
