Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this idea for a game, right? It’s called “in the music box volleyball game players,” and I wanted to share how I’ve been going about building it. It’s been a wild ride, I tell ya!
Getting Started
First, I brainstormed the core concept. I pictured players trapped inside a musical box, and the volleyball court is the main area. The whole thing has a whimsical, kinda creepy vibe. I wanted it to feel like a music box world.
Building the World
I started with a simple box shape for the environment. Think of a basic cube, and then I started carving out the details.I added some music box gears. I put cylinders to make look like music box’s pins.
Character Design
The players… oh boy, the players. I decided to go with ragdoll physics because, well, it’s hilarious. I sketched out some basic humanoid shapes, then threw them into the game engine. I spent a good chunk of time just tweaking the physics, making sure they flop around just right. It’s surprisingly tricky to get that balance between realistic movement and total goofy chaos. I ended up with these kinda creepy, doll-like figures. It took a whole lot of practice
Volleyball Mechanics
This was the real head-scratcher. I wanted the volleyball to react to the music box environment. I added some basic hitting mechanics, just simple pushes and bumps. Then, I played around with adding force based on the rhythm of the music. I picked a random music box style song, the music would speed up and slow down, changing the ball’s bounce to random points.
- I implemented a simple scoring system. Nothing fancy, just basic point tracking.
- I added some particle effects for when the ball hits the ground or the players. Makes it feel a bit more impactful.
The sound
I chose a song at random that sounded like it was coming from an old music box, a little jarring and with a lot of sound.

Putting It All Together
So, yeah, that’s where I’m at. It’s still super rough around the edges, but it’s playable. I got the players flopping around, the ball bouncing (kinda), and the music box theme is definitely there. It’s a weird little project, but I’m having a blast with it. And the next step is to add some obstacles on the court. Maybe some spinning gears or those little dancing figurines you see in music boxes. Gotta keep that chaotic energy going!
