So, I got curious about how long volleyball games actually are. You know, like, when you see them on TV, they seem to go on forever, but is that really the case?
I started poking around online, just to get a general idea. I saw somewhere that said a typical best-of-three match should be somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes. They said each set usually lasts for around 20-30 minutes, which made sense. But, I’m not one to just take things at face value. I wanted to see for myself.
I decided to do a little experiment. I gathered a bunch of my friends who are into volleyball. We formed some teams and started playing a bunch of matches, following the best-of-three format. I made sure to have my stopwatch ready every time.
- Game 1: We played pretty intensely, and this one wrapped up in about 70 minutes.
- Game 2: This one was a bit more relaxed. It took us almost 85 minutes to finish it.
- Game 3: This was a nail-biter! It went back and forth and lasted a whopping 95 minutes!
- Game 4: We were getting tired by this point. This game only took around 65 minutes.
- Game 5: Another close one! We finished it in about 80 minutes.
After a few weekends of this, I started to see a pattern. Most of our games did fall within that 60-90 minute range. But, it really depended on how competitive the match was. The closer the scores, the longer it took. And of course, if we were just messing around, it could be shorter.
My Findings
So, yeah, it seems like that online info was pretty spot on. A typical best-of-three volleyball game does usually take between 60 and 90 minutes. But, it’s not a hard and fast rule. From my little experiment, I found that the actual time can vary quite a bit. It all boils down to the intensity of the game and how close the teams are in terms of skill. I guess that’s what makes it fun to watch, right? You never really know how long it’s going to last!
