Okay, so, last weekend, I decided to get back into playing volleyball after, like, forever. I used to play a bit in high school, but that was ages ago. Anyway, I rounded up some friends, and we headed to the park.
First off, we had to set up the net. Let me tell you, that was a task in itself. We were fumbling around with the poles and ropes, trying to remember how it all went together. After a few, okay, maybe several, tries, we finally got it standing. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked!
Then, we started playing. At first, it was a bit rough. We were bumping into each other, missing the ball, the usual stuff when you’re rusty. But you know what? It was fun! We were laughing so hard at our own mistakes.
- I tried to serve, and let’s just say, the ball went in every direction except over the net.
- My friend, bless her heart, attempted a spike and ended up tripping over her own feet.
- Someone actually tried to do a cool dive, and ended up face-planting.
But slowly, we started to get the hang of it. We were calling for the ball, trying some basic plays, and even managing a few rallies. The other teams were so good at playing, and they had such great teamwork that they were just so cool and good. I really wanted our team to be like that.
Cheering Was Part of It
And the cheering! Oh man, we were yelling our lungs out. We came up with some silly chants, like “Who do we appreciate? 2,4,6!” and the classic “Ace!”. Whenever someone served, we would all yell, “That’s just (server’s name)’s ball flying past your ear! Go (girl’s name that’s serving)!” It was so corny, but it really boosted our spirits. We figured out that these chants are a great way to pump up the team and keep everyone’s energy high during the game.
By the end of the day, we were exhausted, but it was such a good time. We might not have been the best players out there, but we definitely had the most fun. And that’s what it’s all about, right? I’m already planning our next game!
